Cementitious waterproofing is a waterproof membrane that consists of cement, sand, and water. In the past waterproofing was made by applying bitumen to existing surfaces; this involved a lot of labor as it was done manually with trowels. The application of cementitious coatings has gained popularity because their production is automated, thus reducing costs and time.
Advantages of cementitious waterproofing
The advantages of a cementitious waterproofing membrane are that it can extend the life of many civil engineering works and facilities. It serves as a tough coat when applied correctly, and is still effective even in harsh environments with tremendous amounts of water pressure.

Technical details
Cementitious waterproofing is applied by blending cement with a powder called pigments. The powders used are small ceramic or silica particles that are mixed with Portland cement to form hydraulic binders. They must be tested for hardness because they vary from state to state, country to country. Usually, coatings last about 15 years.
Cementitious waterproofing membrane can be applied as caulk or as a coating to concrete, metal, clay surfaces, and more. It seals out water so it can no longer damage the surface of whatever waterproofing is being applied to. The sealant works by producing a membrane that prevents moisture, oxygen, and salt from getting through it. It also increases thermal resistance in many cases because the cement particles absorb heat energy and convert it into a gas release which slowly dissipates throughout the surrounding area rather than becoming trapped below the surface like would happen if no waterproofing was present.
The cementitious coating is a breathable waterproof layer that gives concrete and masonry surfaces protection against positive and negative water pressure.
Positive-side waterproofing means protecting the surface from hydrostatic pressure from the area which is closest to the soil. Whereas negative-side waterproofing has the hydrostatic pressure from the opposite direction, for example, the inside part of the basement walls. The cementitious waterproofing membrane also gives protection against moisture, seepage, mold, and mildew. These molds can grow on woods, ceilings, wallpapers, carpets, and paint. This can lead to respiratory issues and other health problems if not treated on time.
Applications of Cementitious Waterproofing
Cementitious coatings come in two parts that are thoroughly mixed to give a solid and durable waterproof layer. These coatings are most suitable for wet areas such as:
Bathrooms & Toilets
Kitchens
Laundry
The damages caused by moisture may outrun the advantages of cementitious waterproofing. In such cases contact waterproofing professionals like Salman Syed Tech Services for immediate action.
