Waterproofing and repairing work for Aeration, Anoxic, RO Feed, RO Permeate, MBR, and ETP Underground tanks at a water treatment facility in Almarai, Abu Dhabi.
Findings
- Tanks had sludge buildup, hard deposits, and peeling gel coats.
- Some areas showed GRP delamination.
Risks
- Work in tanks 6 meters deep required scaffolding and fall protection.
- Oxygen-deficient atmosphere and chemical gases made it a confined space operation.
Solution
- Manual sludge removal and surface sanding completed.
- Recoated using GRP lamination with chemical-resistant vinyl ester resin and gel coat.
- Bonding and aesthetics both improved.
