A galvanized iron water tank that needs waterproofing and has 98 horizontal and vertical joints was experiencing leaks due to joint failure and rust.
Findings
- Rust accumulation and air pockets near the bolts posed serious risks to waterproofing integrity.
- The bolts were contributing to leakage by creating uneven surfaces.
Solution
- The surface was ground thoroughly to remove rust and create a proper bonding profile.
- Bolts were tightened before the GRP application.
- Applied five layers of GRP across the entire interior surface and added two extra layers on joints.
- Resulted in a watertight and pressure-resistant tank ready for full operation.
